“The phoenix hope, can wing her way through the desert skies, and still defying fortune’s spite; revive from ashes and rise. ”
-Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra

What a beautiful and symbolic work of art created by Melissa Lashbrook. A true and inspiring example of what the festival of chairs is all about.

“The inspiration came from the legend of the phoenix and the mission of the children’s advocacy alliance. The phoenix is a mythical bird that obtains new life by arising from the ashes of its predecessor. It represents our capacity for vision, great beauty, and deathless inspiration. At the end of its life, a phoenix will build a pyre nest of aromatic branches and spices, set it on fire, and be consumed in the flames. Days later the phoenix experiences a rebirth as it arises from the ashes midst the flames. The mission of the CAA is to facilitate the environment for rebirths in children. By providing a community of hope, healing, and justice to extinguish the flames of abuse and neglect, children are able to rise and overcome. Wood burning symbolizes how flames that damage can also be transformed into work that educates. These children will always have scars, but through love and support they can revive and rise. ”

Thank you Melissa for this wonderful piece!
